A few weeks ago we had a scheduled power outage so that Southern California Edison could replace a damaged feeder wire to the neighborhood transformer. Unfortunately our wine keeper did not survive the power re-start. When I pulled it out to see if it could be reset I noticed that sometime in the past it had leaked.

The wood floor underneath was delaminated. It needed to be repaired. We had a couple of the boards left from the installation 25 years ago. Unfortunately they were not enough. So the floors in the living room and dining room had to be replaced.

We went with a maple this time. Over the years we had decided the original floor would have been better in a lighter color. Had the same company do the new floor as had done the original. Susan still had the original receipt. (I had hoped it would let us find some more boards to match--but no, no longer made.)

Michael, the owner, used the receipt for two things. First it had the measurements. But more interesting, it was dated from before his son, now working in the shop, was born.
